The most effective trauma and recovery work will not last if shame is not addressed in treatment. In fact, not treating shame can actually fuel an addiction. Shame becomes the roots of addiction. As we learn to recognize shame, we can start to tackle many of the mistaken beliefs that we believe about ourselves. Learning to recognize shame is the first step toward healing. Learning shame resiliency enables us to reach our fullest potential.
